Anika Systems is an outcome-driven technology consulting firm that helps federal agencies solve complex business challenges and prepare for the future. Our services span Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Automation, Data Science, Digital Transformation, and Cloud, with a specialized focus on National Security, Federal Financials and Federal Civilian agencies. We are dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that support the critical missions of our government clients.

This opportunity is 100% remote.

We are looking for a Senior Full-Stack Developer to join our fast-paced enterprise engineering team. In this senior-level role, you will champion legacy modernization initiatives, systematically breaking down monolithic architectures, legacy databases, and older web frameworks into high-transaction web interfaces and scalable, modern backend solutions across dynamic hybrid infrastructure setups (On-Premises OpenShift & AWS Cloud).
The ideal candidate thrives in aggressive, high-velocity delivery environments, possesses a proven track record of migrating legacy enterprise systems, values proactive team leadership, and actively leverages modern AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate software development lifecycles without sacrificing code quality.

Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen with an active Department of Treasury MBI.

Core Responsibilities
  • Legacy Modernization: Analyze, decouple, and migrate legacy enterprise systems (monoliths, older Java frameworks, complex store procedures) into a clean, decoupled microservices or modular architecture.
  • Front-End Architecture: Design and optimize highly responsive web UIs using React, transforming legacy server-rendered views or desktop applications into sleek interfaces while managing complex client-side caching via Redux.
  • Back-End Engineering: Build secure, high-throughput RESTful services using Java and Spring Boot, while implementing automated, high-volume bulk data pipelines via Spring Batch to replace outdated legacy batch processing routines.
  • Data Migration & Management: Model structured corporate data using JPA and Hibernate ORM to bridge legacy data stores with modern Oracle production databases.
  • Test Automation Execution: Author and maintain automated end-to-end testing frameworks, mock environments, and isolation tests using Selenium, JUnit 5, and Mockito to ensure zero regressions during modernization phases.
  • Hybrid Infrastructure & DevOps: Author and maintain automated CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions to cleanly package, containerize, and deploy modernized services across AWS Cloud and OpenShift Container Platform environments.
  • AI-Driven Delivery: Integrate generative AI tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) into daily workflows to drastically accelerate boilerplate generation, legacy code refactoring, and query optimization.
  • Agile Collaboration: Partner closely with architectural leads, product owners, and QA engineers within highly demanding Sprint cycles to ship reliable, well-documented code under tight deadlines.
Technical Skills Required
Experience Level & Expertise
  • 10–12 years of professional experience in enterprise-grade software engineering, with a strong emphasis on system transformations, refactoring legacy codebases, and application modernization strategies.
Presentation & Layout Layer
  • Languages & Core: JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3.
  • Frameworks & State: React.js, Redux (or Redux Toolkit)
  • Ecosystem Tools: VS Code, NPM.
Business Logic & Persistence Layer
  • Frameworks: Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security.
  • Bulk Processing: Spring Batch (Job, Step, Chunk-based processing configurations).
  • Data & Relational: JPA / Hibernate, Oracle DB (SQL optimization, indexing, migrating legacy stored procedures), and H2 Database (for in-memory testing).
  • Ecosystem Tools: Eclipse IDE, Maven.
Testing & Mocking Frameworks Layer
  • Back-End Unit & Mock Testing: Advanced capability with JUnit 5 and Mockito for structural logic isolation, stubbing behaviors, and legacy code behavioral verification.
  • Front-End Unit Testing: UI isolation and state tracking using Jest and React Testing Library.
  • Web UI Automation: Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining automated UI regression suites using tools like Selenium WebDriver (Java or JavaScript bindings).
Infrastructure & Automation
  • Cloud & Hosting Platforms: Hybrid environment design spanning AWS (Amazon Web Services) and OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).
  • CI/CD Pipeline: GitHub Actions workflow orchestration (integrating automated execution of unit, mocking, and Selenium testing blocks).
  • Containerization: Docker / container lifecycle management.
  • Version Control: Git, GitHub, GitLab
Rapid Application Development
  • Practical experience using GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude for syntax generation, deciphering legacy code patterns, query optimization, and rapid debugging.
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Robotic Process Automation (RPA): Experience building or maintaining automated internal workflows using tools such as UiPath or Microsoft PowerApps.
Soft Skills & Work Culture Match
  • High-Pressure Resilience: Proven experience delivering production-grade code within fast-paced, highly demanding corporate settings.
  • Change Leadership: Ability to safely lead teams through architectural paradigms shifts without disrupting day-to-day business operations.
  • Team-First Mindset: Active participant and leader in peer code reviews, architectural discussions, and cross-functional troubleshooting sessions.
  • Clear Communicator: Ability to articulate complex backend or deployment blockers concisely to non-technical stakeholders.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability
Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
